May 20, 2010 - Tanning Beds Increase Risk of Developing Melanoma Four Fold
Tanning beds are popular devices used by millions of adults across North America for esthetic purposes. This population based case controlled study was able to show a massive increase in risk (4 fold) for those individuals who were regular users of these devices.  The risk increased with increasing years of use.  We should be considering these devices as carcinogens and warnings should be required to be posted in businesses who sell these tanning treatments.

March 23, 2010 - Thymic Peptide Improves Survival in Metastatic Multiple Myeloma

Take Home Message

Metastatic Multiple Myeloma is a challenging disease to treat with poor survival even with chemotherapy treatment.  Thymosin alpha 1 is an isolated peptide extract from calves thymus that has immunomodulatory properties particularly in T cells.  In this study it was shown that Thymosin alpha 1 in combination with decarbazine increased overall survival and reducd diseases progression.

What to Expect...First Visit

Our goal during your first visit is to fully assess your current health situation and to also make you feel at home.  At the centre you will find tea and other refreshments along with educational materials in our waiting room.  We care about your health and overall wellbeing so if there are special considerations we might need to observe for you please let us know.  Here is what to expect before and during your first visit:

 

  1. Book an appointment with our reception staff.  A new patient intake will take between 2-3 hours depending on the assessments being performed.  Since such an extended time is required for your intake we require a minimum of 72 hours for cancellations otherwise a cancellation fee will apply.
  2. For your first visit you will have to fill in a comprehensive health assessment questionnaire which will ensure we have addressed all aspects of your health and environmental exposure history. Give yourself time to fill this form out it may take 1+ hours to do this.   In addition, you will be expected to provide a minimum of 4 day diet diary
  3. Patients undergoing functional terrain assessment will be required to fast for 10 hours prior to their visit and must take nothing by mouth for at least 4 hours prior to your visit.  For more details on testing preparation click here .
  4. If there have been any diagnostic tests performed on you in the past year please bring them with you to your first visit (examples include blood work, diagnostic imaging like x-ray, ultrasound, CT scan or MRI). 

 

When you arrive you will be first be seen by your practitioner and have whatever necessary diagnostics completed.  Your practitioner will review the results with you and perform a physical examination as required.  They will then create a specific therapy plan that will include dietary recommendations, exercise plan, therapeutic products, and more.
