Individualized Risk Reduction
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. This common saying has never been more important in a world where rates of chronic diseases like cancer are spiralling out of control. Given the cancer statistics that 1 in 2 men and 2 in 5 women will develop cancer in their lifetime it is important that we all take action to actively engage in preventive measures. Having said that it is often difficult to know where to start and what exactly to do.
At MCNE we engage all patients in aggressive individualized cancer and chronic disease prevention. The first step is to take a detailed history of each patient reviewing factors like: family history, occupational exposures to toxic chemicals, lifestyle habits and more. From this work we can prioritize preventive therapies and lifestyle recommendations to reduce patient’s risk of developing a chronic illness like cancer or cardiovascular disease by almost 50%. Preventive therapies consist of more than early detection and screening and at MCNE we recognize the need for broader preventive strategies.
