Fitness Therapy in Cancer Care

Fitness Activiy...Important but overlooked theray
There are many myths about how cancer patients should avoid physical activity and allow the body to rest. We now know the old adage: “go home and rest” is counterproductive and does not work to improve responses to cancer treatment. The truth is physical activity, no matter how intense or long, is always beneficial during and after cancer treatment. A fitness plan during active conventional cancer treatment (including chemotherapy, radiation and post surgery) should only be started after consultation with an expert.

Some benefits of physical activity as a part of cancer care are:

  • Improved tolerance of chemotherapy
  • Reduced cancer related fatigue
  • Improved response to treatment and overall survival
