Patient Support and Education
Experiencing the diagnosis of a serious chronic illness can bring a time of despair, anxiety, fear, frustration, and anger while at the same time yearning to find someone to turn to for help. In recognition of the aforementioned concern, Marsden Centre of Naturopathic Excellence (MCNE) has developed an education and support program for patients and their families. The aim is to provide patients and their loved ones the opportunity for (a) increased knowledge and understanding of the underlying connection between their newly experienced emotions and their physical condition, (b) a safe environment to talk, individually or in small groups (family group or other individuals facing similar concerns), about their feelings, and about how their illness has affected their lives, (c) a caring network of people who understand that medical treatment is just one aspect of dealing with illness and that posses the skills and sensitivity needed to offer support that can help the patient cope with the emotional side effects associated with their condition.
Our goal for this program is to offer a humane caring space to those who have chronic diseases, as well as their loved ones, through the following services:
- Individualized counselling, small group counselling/family and focus groups
- Seminars for families and community members
- Art Therapy and Music Therapy sessions
